Risk expert Desigan Reddy (ex-Luno, Absa, Old Mutual) discusses how the 2008 crisis reshaped regulations (Basel Accords), the transition from JIBAR to ZARONIA, and why simplicity is the key to building successful trading tools.

In this third edition of Calculated Conversations, I had the privilege of speaking with Mr. Desigan Reddy, an expert in risk analysis, algorithmic trading, and portfolio management. Mr. Reddy offers a unique perspective on the evolution of financial risk management, from regulatory changes to the adoption of cutting-edge technologies. With certifications like FRM, CFA, and CTP, how have these qualifications shaped your approach to risk analysis and decision-making in finance?

Obtaining these certifications laid the foundation to better interpret, analyze, and understand potential risks. FRM provided a comprehensive overview of risk management from both quantitative and qualitative perspectives, offering useful frameworks for mitigating risks. CFA and CTP gave a broader understanding of the markets and financial industry. Hands-on experience in the risk environment, combined with certification knowledge, enhanced my decision-making and understanding of historical market patterns. Key takeaway: "Certifications provide valuable theoretical frameworks, but hands-on experience is indispensable for decision-making and understanding risk."
